Aurora woman visits husband at ICE detention facility, learns he was sent for deportation

An Aurora wife and mother is speaking out after learning her husband could be deported in the coming days, following a visit to the Aurora ICE detention center. (click to read more)
“His life is on the line,” said Alexandria Dowell, “and we have a daughter. She cannot see her dad anymore. What does that mean for us?”
Dowell, 27, met her husband, 34-year-old Ariel Cruz Penton, when she was vacationing in Miami roughly four years ago. Penton had already been living and working in the U.S. after fleeing Cuba as a political refugee.

Hudson community members, allies rally in eastern Colorado against ICE detention center proposal

Crowds of Hudson residents and people from other parts of Colorado gathered outside the former Hudson Correctional Facility on Wednesday to protest against proposed plans to build an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center at that location. (click to read more)
“We’re here to stand up for injustice,” said Jenifer Montes, who is with a group called Immigrant Partnership Team in Weld County and with the group No Concentration Camps in Colorado.

Colorado community ask state for oversight, changes to mental health transitional living homes

CBS Colorado first covered the controversy in 2024, when residents and city leaders discovered the Colorado Department of Human Services would establish two level-one mental health transitional living homes at 11255 and 11275 Grant Drive.
